Shelley Calton challenges that assumption in her new book, Concealed: She's Got a Gun - a series of photographs showing Texan women, and their firearms.
Growing up around guns, Calton was taught to shoot at an early age.
As an adult she learned a different kind of shooting - and became a photographer. In "Concealed", Calton says she wants to highlight the significance of guns in the everyday lives of Texas women, and their experiences as concealed carriers.
